Located in the Ica Province, near the city of Ica, Huacachina is known as the oasis of America, where many tourists come for the huge sand dunes and sandsurfing. The legend says the place was created by a princess caught bathing by a local hunter. The pool of water she left became a lagoon, while her mantle transformed into sand dunes. It is sayd that the princess inhabits the lagoon as a mermaid. Just wanted to share with you these amazing pictures:

While many of you (including me, of course) are preparing to spend a lovely weekend, there are people out there who jsut don’t know what the rest is like. The Marathon des Sables which is considered to be the toughest foot race on Earth ended just a couple of days ago where 900 athletes from around the world had to prove their abilities by walking about 152 miles (245 kilometres) on foot under the burning sun of the southern Moroccan desert. According to the rules of the marathon, the runners have to carry the amount of food enough for one week, flares and snake antidote by themselves while only water is provided by the organisers. How hard is that?

The AMC Pacific Place Cinema was opened on December 9th in Hong Kong, China. Refurbished by James Law Cybertecture International, Pacific Place Cinema is on the ground floor of the Pacific Place mall in the Queensway district on Hong Kong Island. The space use to be a two auditorium UA Pacific Place Cinema. The newly designed space houses 6 theaters, featuring a total of 599 seats. Pacific Place is considered “Asia’s most technologically-advanced cinema”, boasting Hong Kong’s best three-way SRD-EX audio system, and incorporating a bunch of never-seen before solutions.

Here are some very beautiful shots of Tokyo at twilight as seen by a famous Japanese photographer Sato Shintaro. That’s what Mr. Shintaro writes on his page about these photos: “I take photographs of Tokyo townscape from emergency staircase of multi-tenant buildings and of apartment houses. Most of staircases are facing back streets, and it is interesting that the other side of Tokyo appears there. Townscape in the twilight looked from staircases, to which no one reaches as if it has slipped from everyday life, has so erotic appeal that I am fascinated by townscapes every time when I take photographs. I become aware that I do not know anything about the town in fact, although I always look at Tokyo townscape.”

Kolmanskop is a ghost town in southern Namibia, a few kilometres inland from the port of LГјderitz. In 1908, Luederitz was plunged into diamond fever and people rushed into the Namib desert hoping to make an easy fortune. Within two years, a town, complete with a casino, school, hospital and exclusive residential buildings, was established in the barren sandy desert.

But shortly after the drop in diamond sales after the First World War, the beginning of the end started. During the 1950’s the town was deserted and the dunes began to reclaim what was always theirs.

Forget about human rights and the freedom of speech issues for a while and look what a beautiful country China is in reality!

Located on Navajo land in Arizona, Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is extremely beautiful with just the ideal combination of depth, width, length, rock color and ambient light. It was also highly used by pop culture: a few movies, including the 1996 film Broken Arrow, and the Britney Spears video “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” were shot at the canyon.

Still speaking about the crisis in economy? Don’t worry, nothing is that bad yet! In Zimbabwe you can buy tomatoes on the market for 5 million dollars. This country is in a desperate situation now with 80% unemployment and constantly rising inflation. At the beginning of March the exchange rate 20m for 1 US dollar, now it’s already 40m.

“Designed by a British engineering company in Brand, south of the German capital, Tropical Islands is the latest brainchild of a Malaysian entrepreneur, Colin Au, 55, who made his money cruises and Asian resorts. He has invested £48 million in the project. The project is based in a hall of five million cubic metres, the world’s largest free-standing building. It is higher than the Statue of Liberty and could fit six football stadiums on two layers. It will be open around the clock.” (Telegraph)

In Cappadocia’s magical landscape of fairy chimneys, in the ancient village of Urgup, is a luxurious hotel carved into a mountain cliff, the Yunak Evleri. This hotel includes six cave houses, 30 rooms dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries and a 19th century Greek Mansion. �The Carnival in Venice is no goof, no consumistic ceremony, but sincere, wonderful heartfelt tradition that goes back in time almost a millennium’, it is claimed. However, long-established tradition, which has usually involved a beautiful woman swooping down onto Venice’s St. Mark’s Squire from the basilica’s bell tower to mark the start of the Carnival was broken this year when rapper Coolio had been set to perform the “flight of the angel” instead.

We’ve already reported from the unique Harbin Snow and Ice Sculpture Expo. Now the compositions look even more magnificent when the expo is fully prepared and some lights are added to the scene. It is just breathtaking, I wanna be there!
