The legend says the place was created by a princess caught bathing by a local hunter. The pool of water she left became a lagoon, while her mantle transformed into sand dunes. The Marathon des Sables which is considered to be the toughest foot race on Earth ended just a couple of days ago where 900 athletes from around the world had to prove their abilities by walking about 152 miles (245 kilometres) on foot under the burning sun of the southern Moroccan desert. According to the rules of the marathon, the runners have to carry the amount of food enough for one week, flares and snake antidote by themselves while only water is provided by the organisers. Most of staircases are facing back streets, and it is interesting that the other side of Tokyo appears there. Townscape in the twilight looked from staircases, to which no one reaches as if it has slipped from everyday life, has so erotic appeal that I am fascinated by townscapes every time when I take photographs. In 1908, Luederitz was plunged into diamond fever and people rushed into the Namib desert hoping to make an easy fortune. Within two years, a town, complete with a casino, school, hospital and exclusive residential buildings, was established in the barren sandy desert. But shortly after the drop in diamond sales after the First World War, the beginning of the end started. It is extremely beautiful with just the ideal combination of depth, width, length, rock color and ambient light.
